GENERAL OVERVIEW
Mike began his journey in the construction industry at the age of 14 when he worked summers for his father’s cement contracting firm where he learned a strong work ethic from a stubborn German (his father) who continued to work in that industry well into his 70’s. It was there that he garnered his huge passion for the building industry and has been involved in it ever since.
Mike earned a degree in civil engineering from Texas A&M University in 1972 and worked as a project manager and design engineer for three different firms in New Jersey from 1972 to 1986. In 1986 he began his own remodeling firm in Illinois and has been an owner or partner ever since. Mike is currently a partner in the firm MAW Chicago LLC (MAW stands for “Men at Work”) a company that combined three existing firms into one specializing in high end residential and commercial remodeling in the city limits of Chicago and the surrounding suburbs. MAW has also completed several projects with Trust Companies for families’ and clients with special needs. In addition to his Certified Graduate Remodeler (CGR) and Certified Aging-In-Place Specialist (CAPS) designations, Mike is a Certified Lead Renovator
Mike has been active at the National level for 26 years holding a variety of leadership positions within the remodeling and building industry including:

- 2011 President of the Home Builders Association of Illinois

- Member of the Conventions committee
- NAHB Senior life director
- NAHB Build-PAC trustee 2014-2019
- Past Chairman of the NAHB Design Committee

- Past member of the public affairs committee
- Life director of his local HBA
- Court of Honor local HBA
- Testified at Senate Committee on Health and Human Services in 2007 on the pending lead rule prior to its enactment in 2010
- Testified at the EPA in DC four time from 2007 to 2014 on the EPA Lead Rule and associated issues
- Testified at the Office of Management and budget of the white house on the liabilities of third party lead testing
- NAHBR Remodeler of the Year 2011
Mike and his wife Vern live in Roselle, IL and recently celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary. They have two grown children and currently have custody of two of their grandchildren and Mike coaches their grandson’s little league travel team enjoying a second opportunity as parents. Mike loves to cycle, play golf and play power volleyball, is a member of his church council, is a diehard Bulls fan and a big movie buff.
