MARSHALL KNIGHT
GENERAL OVERVIEW
Marshall Knight’s
involvement in construction may be summarized as follows: in December 2011, he
was the 23rd inductee into the North Carolina Housing Hall of Fame. Marshall is
a second generation builder specializing in residential building code issues and
insurance damage reconstruction. Having served as the Chairman of the
Residential Committee on the NC Building Code Council, Marshall is recognized as
an authority on the NC Building Code and has testified as an expert witness in
building construction disputes throughout North Carolina. He has represented
inspection departments, city and county governments, general contractors, and
individual owners in both civil litigation and arbitration disputes. In addition
to his work in the courtroom, Marshall has also served as an umpire in insurance
disputes.
Marshall has a wide range of experience in construction - from the time he
started his career as a project engineer in heavy construction involving power
plant and paper plant construction through the continuation of his career in
mercantile construction to his present day business in custom home building and
light commercial building. Marshall holds an Unlimited General Contractor’s
license in building and public utilities. Marshall is also a licensed North
Carolina Electrical Contractor; licensed North Carolina Plumbing Contractor; and
licensed North Carolina Mechanical Contractor.
Marshall has built many custom homes in northeastern North Carolina, as well as
many commercial buildings, tenant spaces, department stores and mall
modifications throughout the Southeast.
COMMUNITY SERVICE
Marshall has devoted his
career to providing better, affordable housing to the citizens of North Carolina
by working with the local, state and national home builders associations. He has
spent countless hours working behind the scenes to ensure North Carolina
homeowners and builders are protected by the NC Building Codes.
Marshall served as President of the Northeast North Carolina Homebuilders
Association for 4 years; he served as Vice-President of the Northeast North
Carolina Homebuilders Association for 1 year; he served on the Northeast North
Carolina Homebuilders Board of Directors for 12 years; he served on the North
Carolina Homebuilders Association Board of Directors for 10 years. Marshall has
been a member of the Code and Legislative Committees since 1995 and a member of
the National Association of Homebuilders Board of Directors since 1993.
While on the North Carolina Building Code Council, Marshall also served as
chairman of various committees and as a member of various ad hoc committees. In
addition, Marshall has served as a member of the Perquimans County Board of
Adjustments.

Marshall was inducted into the North Carolina Housing Hall of Fame in December
2011. The plaque honoring Marshall reads as follows:
“Your commonsense approach to building codes and construction related issues,
especially demonstrated during your 10-year service on the North Carolina
Building Code Council, as well as your vast expertise in the fields of plumbing,
mechanical and electrical contracting, which you have shared in an effort to
educate and rally support for the rights of homeowners and builders, have made
lasting contributions to the residential building industry in North Carolina.”
