GENERAL OVERVIEW

Steve King began his career in construction-related businesses in 1975 in Phoenix, AZ.  He holds New Mexico contractor’s licenses in both general contracting and cabinets and millwork.  He has held numerous positions with  construction-related associations and continues to serve on board positions with the HomeBuilders Association of Central New Mexico and on committees with the Santa Fe Area HomeBuilders Association.  He is the Executive Officer of Davis Kitchens which is the largest cabinet distributor headquartered in New Mexico.  Davis Kitchens serves the production builder, custom builder, and retail markets in central and northern New Mexico.  Davis Kitchens enjoys a solid reputation for delivering quality cabinetry and outstanding service.

Steve believes that the basis for most construction disputes is unintentional poor communication which creates a set of divergent expectations for both parties to the dispute.  Mediation and arbitration are time-tested methods to rebuild the communication process and arrive at reasonable and fair resolutions.

EDUCATION

Steve received a B.S. in mathematics from New Mexico State University in 1970.  His education continued with an M.B.A. from Arizona State University in 1972.  He continued with additional business and accounting training and earned a C.P.A. in Arizona in 1982.

He became interested in dispute resolution in Arizona and trained for arbitration work with the Better Business Bureau in Phoenix as a volunteer arbitrator.  He moved to California in 1987 and continued to do volunteer arbitration with the Oakland BBB. With a move in 1993 to Albuquerque he has continued with some limited arbitration work at the BBB in New Mexico.

After starting Davis Kitchens in 1994, Steve continued his education and training in construction and earned the Certified Graduate Remodelor designation from the National Association of HomeBuilders Remodelors Council in 2005.
