EXPERIENCE
Working in the construction industry as a laborer up to a general contractor Steve's experience has always been hard work and hands-on. His demand for quality construction in a professional profession has always paid off for him. He spent many years building upper end custom vacation homes for affluent customers with discriminating taste. His high craftsmanship has given him a very good referral network with most of his business repeat and referral clients. He fostered standards and codes in his building area–heading builders Code advisory board. A charter member of his local NAHB chapter and also served as executive officer and Local President. He went on to serve on the Idaho executive committee and Idaho NAHB State President. Steve was a strong advocate, and aggressively lobbied, for contractor registration. Upon the passage of legislation he was appointed by the governor to serve on the first contractor registration board. During his two terms, two years as chairman, he also represented Idaho at the National Association of State Contractor Licensing Agencies(NASCLA). He served on the executive committee and as National President for NASCLA. He has been trained as a mediator for over 10 years and has mediated numerous disputes. Steve’s extremely diverse background has given him a very unique and balanced perspective which allows him to understand the construction issues of the builder as well as those of the owner/client. Combining Steve’s lifetime of knowledge allows him to affectively address real world problems, and apply it, in finding the best possible outcome for all parties involved.
MEDIATION AND ARBITRATION PHILOSPHY
Construction disputes usually spend too much money on attorneys and not enough money on solutions. Steve speaks the language of the parties, can grasp what happened and has a broad understanding of potential construction conflict. This lifelong experience combined with his understanding of the law allows him to be able to focus the parties on settlement through mediation. Steve is able to combine his knowledge, skill and experience of construction with his knowledge, skills and experience of mediation to produce beneficial results. In arbitrations, because of his experience, Steve is able to properly assess the true cause-and-effect of the situation and to equitably evaluated it.
